Paul Clapham
Paul Clapham has worked in the environmental sector for more than 30 years. He began his professional career as an Ecologist and Environmental Scientist in the UK with an honours degree from Exeter University; and an MSc from Lancaster University. Paul's masters degree included research for British Nuclear Fuels into the sea to land transfer of radioactivity from liquid radioactive waste using isotope studies and mass balance methodologies. Following several years working in industry as a consultant and higher education as a university lecturer, Paul joined the staff of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management as Head of Education and Training. During his time at the Chartered Institution, Paul was seconded full-time for two years to the UK Government's Waste Implementation Programme where he oversaw the the development and delivery of capability building programmes in alternative waste treatment technologies for local government officers and regulators, as part of the UK's response to the implementation of the European Union's Landfill Directive.
Subsequently Paul joined Enviros Consulting as a Technical Director specialising in the provision of support to major procurements for residual waste treatment solutions and has been involved in the delivery of a number of large-scale energy from waste and mechanical biological treatment (MBT) solutions for UK councils. Following the acquisition of Enviros by Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM), Paul moved to Melbourne in 2010 as Project Director. After joining Hyder Consulting in 2014 (now Arcadis) Paul began to deliver a programme of work for the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group to support its 10 year Regional Implementation Plan. In May 2017 Paul joined MWRRG as a Senior Project Manager to lead the development of a business case that has investigated the need for residual waste treatment solutions in Melbourne. Paul was appointed to the role of Director of Procurement & Contracts at MWRRG in January 2018. In addition to leading the work on residual waste treatment solutions, Paul is responsible for key aspects of the Victorian Government's Recycling Industry Strategic Plan (published July 2018) as well as overseeing the management of MWRRG's 3 organic waste processing contracts.
