The aluminium smelting industry in Australia consumes more electricity than any other industry and it is failing. The key to international competitiveness is electricity pricing, which accounts for around one third of the cost of making aluminium. Australia’s main smelters can become competitive if large scale renewable energy capacity can be developed and firmed electricity delivered to the smelters at internationally competitive prices. This webinar discusses how that can be done and why it is important to take a precinct approach to addressing heavy industry energy supply.
This webinar is the final in our series on industrial demand response, sponsored by the Victorian Clean Technology Fund.
